The team in charge of the organization of the Ascension of Mount Cameroon gave a press conference last Friday, November 8 at the company’s headquarters in Douala Cameroon Guinness; Marketing Brand Director Francis Mbongue, Director in-charge for Marketing Jacques-Derce Mouen, the Secretary General of the Cameroon Athletics Federation (FCA) Charles Kouoh and DG PROXIMITY SA Serge Constant Ebene, keep the press current about the progress of the preparations for this challenge that is more open today internationally.
After the signing of a partnership agreement to support this event with FCA a few weeks ago during a similar meeting in Yaounde, the Guinness Company has honor his promise to the public, as preparations evolve, information relating thereto. Since its first edition in 1973, it has always relied on the support of the brand, where its first name “Guinness Rise Of The Mountain.” It is with great emotion that the Cameroonian and FCA in particular, welcome the return of the big sponsors at the forefront of this dangerous rise of “Chariot of the Gods” …
In his speaking, Francis Mbongue will focus first on the premiums earn by the different race winners on February 15, the first of the race (men) will win a check for 10 million francs CFA, same for the first (among women). Regarding those who will all stages of the race, that is to say, Full Race or Senior Class (38 km), or Race Hall Junior Category (19 km) and Quarter race or veterans class (5km) each of these winners (men and women) will also receive 10 million francs CFA. The first three in each category will be awarded so winning, and, in addition to 10 million checks that receive different winners, the “second” in each category receive 5 million each, and the “third” will receive 2 million each.
Regarding participation in the race, this year there has been a change, as evidenced by the DG PROXIMITY SA Serge Constant Ebene, each participant will pay a registration fee of 5,000 francs CFA, to be paid into the account EXPRESS UNION No. 2160069544015, and only those who participated in the last three editions of the race will be exempted from the said payment. Regarding the conditions of participation one should:

  • Be aged 21 years or more (regardless of sex, nationality, or religion)
  • Bring a medical certificate signed by a licensed physician
  • A 4×4 Photo
  • A license (if it is a confirmed athlete).
    Among the innovations:
  • Packs (race kits, sports wear, etc.) will be provided to participants
  • Coaching sessions throughout the territory
  • Higher rewards for winners
  • Points of authorized entries in all the major cities in Cameroon and abroad

Guinness reassured that the funds collected during registration will be used to fund charitable projects. One of the key points of this edition is the participation of Guinness Cameroon SA project to restore the house of Sarah Etongue, seven-time winner of the rise and emblematic figure of the Course.
